THE CHEEKY MONKEY!


During Spring and Winter months when your birds are desperate for food, keeping up with them can become quite a costly venture.

I decided to try my own recipe by experimenting with different types of food.

This is their favourite and attracts all types of birds.

In the harsh winter and when they are feeding their young, my gerden becomes very busy and I find my BIRD CAKE lasts 2 to 3 days.
The rest of the year it lasts quite a while.

I would love to know how you get on if you try my recipe.
Please tell me what birds you get.
Also if you have any photos of them eating my "Bird Cake " I would love you to e mail them to me so I can add them to my gallery.
I would like to encourage others to feed the birds without spending a fortune with items they probably already have in their home.
So many people don't realise whay beauty they have in their garden and they miss out on so much because they are either not looking, not feeding the birds or they can't afford it.

I really hope this set works as I'm on a mission!

JAYNIE'S BIRD CAKE

4 slices of bread = Break the bread up into little pieces then pour boiling water over it and mash up with a potato masher until it looks like porridge.

Lard = Add one big chunk of lard and mix in until it has all melted. I sometimes put it in the microwave. Make sure you have enough lard so that when the mixture cools, the lard will hold everything together.

Sultanas = mix in a handfull of sultanas
Nuts = Add 2 handfulls of bird nuts ( not salted peanuts! ) Also if you have some, add 2 desert spoons of crunchy peanut butter.

* IN SPRING I SUBSTITUTE THE NUTS FOR HIGH ENERGY SUET PELLETS AS I WORRY ABOUT THE YOUNG BIRDS CHOKING ON THE NUTS!

Oats. = Add a good amount of porridge or baking oats or even Alpen cereal.

Other bits = I also add dries mealworm and chopped pieces of bacon rind.

Mix together

* IF YOU ADD BIRDSEED TO YOUR PIE DO NOT ADD BIRD SEED UNTIL THE MIXTURE IS COLD! DO NOT COOK BIRD SEED! IT WILL CHANGE THE STRUCTURE OF THE SEED AND COULD HARM YOUR BIRDS*

Spread the mixture out flat on some greaseproof paper so it looks like 2 pizzas. Or you can roll it into small balls for your fat ball feader.
Place the mixture in the fridge until cold.

YUMMY!

I then place it outside on 2 plastic lids on the ground. The birds will happily peck at it all day and I save money and get lots of pleasure watching them eat something I've made for them.

Please make sure in winter you get rid of your frozen water and give them fresh water twice a day.

I'm still in love with most of the things my mom made for my sister and I as kids. Chicken Stuff: Stuffing, Chicken and Cream of Chicken soup layered into a cassorole dish then cooked til the stuffing is of perfect stuffing consistency. Bologna Cups: Bologna fried until the edges pop up (the cup) and mashed potatoes. Cut up hot dogs & velveeta: This one makes my stomach ache now but I still love it. sliced and fried hot dogs (Red, please) and velveeta. Sometimes tossed together, usually in seperate plates so I can attack the hot dogs with ketchup. One of the things we had a lot of was English Muffins. It's one of the few things my mother my sister and I all love equally. English muffins fucking taste good with anything, you ever notice that. Toasted with peanut butter, jam or butter. Baked with sauce and cheese(that's an English Muffin Pizza. mm mm mm) , the important thing is that thier cooked, cause they dont taste all that good straight from the fridge. My personal favorite, and my sisters for the matter are McBarrett's. What is a McBarrett you say? I'll do you one better: How to make a McBarrett..
1. Heat frying pan and spray with your favorite cooking spray(we use the cheap stuff).
2. Place English Muffin in toaster and toast to your liking(the momma dark, SissyPoo brown, me barley touched)
3.crack egg into pan(or!do it the Rachael Ray way, crack it in a bowl first so you can pick out shells if you suck at cracking)and cook to your liking (The Momma likes it so runny it's leaking, SissyPoo likes it just slightly runny, I have mine cooked all the way through hard)
4. Butter English Muffin once done and place on microwave safe plate.
5. take freshly fried egg and pop on E.M.
6. Add slice of Canadian Bacon (ham. usually it's canned this time I have sliced itty bitty baby ham)
7. Add slice of cheese(we've always used deli sliced american)
8. Place E.M. top on and pop into microwave for about 30 secods, just enough for the cheese to melt and the ham to loose the chill.
9. Cut in half and enjoy!
If yoru like my sister and I you'll cut it in half take the most ridiculously scalding hot bite, down half of your orange juice trying to make it stop, then wait for the steam to go away before you bite it again.
