Since I found this to be a rather difficult thing to figure out, I thought I'd post my discoveries here. What made it difficult for me was how tightly the base and the head were screwed together. Because of that I wasn't sure what was going wrong with taking it apart. In fact, I wasn't even sure it was possible. Tighten the panning knob very tightly and use the panning handle (removed in the sequence above) as a lever.

The dog leash is in variegated reds & pinks, and the poodle is variegated greys & black. I especially love how the poodle's fill stitches (aside from the 1,000,000 french knots) make him appear freshly groomed! LOL!

For the record: Mental Floss magazine is an intelligent read, but not too intelligent. We're the sort of intelligent that you hang out with for a while, enjoy our company, laugh a little, smile a lot and then we part ways. Great times. And you only realize how much you learned from us after a little while. Like a couple days later when you're impressing your friends with all these intriguing facts and things you picked up from us, and they ask you how you know so much, and you think back on that great afternoon you spent with us and you smile.
